Some highlights:
Don't give it out your e-mail address everywhere. Use free addresses (msn, gmail, yahoo) instead.
Learn to use BCC and ask your family and friends and family to do the same.
NEVER open an email you know is spam and NEVER click on the "remove me from your list" in a spam email.
